Canva, one of the most widely used design platforms among creators, businesses, and individuals, has rolled out a unique new language update that reflects how the internet generation communicates today. The update, called “English (Chronically Online)”, is designed to embrace modern online slang and internet-native expressions that have become part of everyday digital conversations.
According to Canva, this new language option is inspired by users who have grown up online and naturally incorporate internet culture into their creative workflows. With this update enabled, Canva claims it can “transform every button, tooltip, and AI chat into internet vocabulary,” offering a playful and culturally relevant experience across the platform.
In recent months, Canva observed that many users were already prompting its AI tools using phrases associated with modern internet slang, such as “main character energy.” The company says this trend has helped users express ideas more freely and creatively. By formally integrating this style of language into the interface, Canva aims to further enhance creativity while making the platform feel more relatable to younger and digitally fluent audiences.
Canva also revealed that certain slang terms have seen a sharp rise in popularity over the past year. Words like “slay” and “rizz” experienced massive growth in usage, with increases of 98 percent and 88 percent respectively. This surge in demand is believed to be one of the key reasons behind the launch of English (Chronically Online), as Canva adapts to how language evolves in online spaces.
Beyond the language update, Canva has also introduced “extremely online templates.” These templates are designed to reflect internet aesthetics and trends, and they even include hidden easter eggs for users to discover. This move reinforces Canva’s effort to blend design tools with contemporary digital culture in a fun and engaging way.
One of the most appealing aspects of Canva’s latest update is accessibility. All new features, including the English (Chronically Online) language setting and the new templates, are available free of cost to both free and paid users. This ensures that the update reaches Canva’s massive global user base without any barriers.
How to Enable English (Chronically Online)
Enabling the new language setting is simple. Users just need to go to Settings in Canva, navigate to Language, and select English (Chronically Online) from the list.
This update follows Canva’s broader push toward AI-driven tools and innovation. In April last year, the company introduced several advanced features such as voice-enabled AI coding and an AI-powered spreadsheet generator as part of its Visual Suite 2.0 update. With English (Chronically Online), Canva continues to blend technology, creativity, and internet culture into a single, evolving design platform.
