Samsung Adds Tap & Pay Support for AU Bank Visa Cards, Strengthening Its India-First Wallet Strategy

Samsung just made mobile payments a little easier for millions of Galaxy users. The company has rolled out Tap & Pay support for AU Small Finance Bank’s Visa Credit Cards, allowing users to make contactless payments directly from Samsung Wallet without needing to reach for a physical card. On the surface, it’s a small update — but in practice, it marks a major step in Samsung’s push to transform Wallet into an all-in-one payments hub tailored specifically for Indian consumers.

How Tap & Pay Works for AU Visa Credit Card Users

With this new partnership, Samsung brings NFC-based Tap & Pay functionality to AU Bank customers using Galaxy devices. Setting it up is simple: once an AU Visa Credit Card is added to Samsung Wallet, users only need to unlock their Galaxy phone, bring it close to an NFC-enabled point-of-sale terminal, and tap to complete the transaction. No physical card, no fumbling through a wallet, and no additional authentication steps beyond unlocking the device.

The feature reduces the risks associated with carrying and potentially losing a physical card. It also speeds up checkout lines and gives users a unified place to manage all their payments — including credit cards, UPI, and upcoming digital services. For heavy shoppers, commuters, and anyone who regularly pays through contactless systems, the convenience factor is significant.

Samsung Wallet’s Growing India-First Focus

India is one of Samsung’s most important mobile markets, and recent updates to Samsung Wallet show a clear strategy: build features that make everyday payments faster and more seamless for Indian users.

One of the biggest upgrades is the ability to add UPI accounts during a phone’s initial setup. This means that from the moment a Galaxy device is activated, users can begin making payments without having to download multiple apps or complete lengthy registrations. Even better, Samsung has introduced biometric authentication for UPI — allowing transactions to be approved via face unlock or fingerprint. The need to manually enter a PIN for every purchase is gone, making UPI payments more aligned with modern mobile banking habits.

Samsung is also expanding its support for international and multi-currency payments. Beyond AU Bank’s Tap & Pay, Samsung Wallet already supports contactless transactions through Forex cards powered by WSFx Global Pay. For frequent travelers, this ensures seamless offline and online payments abroad using the same device. And soon, Samsung plans to enable direct online transactions using stored credit and debit cards, eliminating the need to repeatedly type in card details on websites and apps.

Digital Car Keys: The Next Big Step

Payments are only one part of Samsung’s Wallet ambitions. The company is now preparing to roll out Digital Car Key support in India. Through a partnership with Mahindra, Samsung will enable Galaxy phones to lock, unlock, and even start certain electric SUVs — including the upcoming Mahindra BE 6 and XEV 9e.

Using NFC technology, Digital Car Keys turn a smartphone into a secure vehicle key. Owners will simply tap their phone against the car’s door handle or start module, similar to how current tap-to-pay functions work. As more automakers adopt digital keys, Samsung Wallet could evolve into a central hub not just for payments but for mobility and smart-home interactions as well.

Samsung Wallet is steadily becoming one of the most versatile and feature-rich payment tools on Android — and the addition of Tap & Pay support for AU Bank’s Visa Credit Cards is a meaningful milestone. With UPI integration, biometric authentication, Forex support, online payment capabilities, and soon, digital car keys, Samsung is positioning Wallet as the default daily companion for Galaxy users in India.

As digital transactions continue to grow across the country, Samsung’s India-focused updates show a clear intent: to make paying, traveling, unlocking, and managing life simpler — all from a single app.
