Spotify on Thursday unveiled three new Premium subscription tiers in India, broadening its offerings to cater to a wide spectrum of listeners—from casual music fans to dedicated audiophiles. The refreshed lineup introduces Premium Lite, Premium Standard, and Premium Platinum, with plans starting at Rs 139 per month.
In a press statement, Spotify highlighted the diverse listening habits among Indian users, noting that the new portfolio was designed to reflect these differences.
“While Spotify has become an integral part of listeners’ lives in India, the way people stream varies from those discovering music for the first time to passionate audiophiles seeking high-quality sound and advanced discovery features. The new portfolio reflects this diversity,” the company said.
A More Affordable Entry Point: Premium Lite
At the base of the new lineup is Premium Lite, priced at Rs 139 per month. This tier offers an ad-free listening experience and serves as Spotify’s most affordable Premium option yet, ideal for users who want uninterrupted streaming without additional features.
Premium Standard: The Balanced Choice
For Rs 199 per month, the Premium Standard plan provides a more complete experience with ad-free playback, offline downloads, and access to high-quality audio streaming. Students can enjoy the same benefits at a discounted rate of Rs 99 per month, making it an attractive option for younger users.
Premium Platinum: Advanced Features for Audiophiles
At the top of the tier system is Premium Platinum, priced at Rs 299 per month. This plan introduces an array of advanced, AI-powered tools, including AI DJ and AI-driven playlists, offering highly personalized music curation. It also features integration with third-party mixing and DJ platforms.
Platinum subscribers gain access to lossless audio, enabling uncompressed, high-fidelity listening — a key draw for serious music enthusiasts. Additionally, the plan supports multi-user access, allowing two extra household members to create their own separate accounts under the same subscription.
Amarjit Singh Batra, Managing Director of Spotify India, emphasized the company’s move toward greater flexibility:
“We are evolving our Premium subscription portfolio from the one-size-fits-all model to reflect the diverse ways people listen to music in India. Every listener is different, so we’re offering more choice, flexibility, and control from Lite to Platinum, ensuring everyone can experience Spotify in a way that fits their lifestyle and deepens their connection to the music and creators they love.”
A Strategic Shift in a Growing Market
This expansion comes shortly after Spotify increased its base Premium price earlier this year from Rs 119 to Rs 139 per month. CEO Daniel Ek has repeatedly underscored India’s importance as a growth market, calling it a key driver for the company’s next phase of revenue expansion.
Global Growth Remains Strong
Internationally, Spotify continues to see solid performance. Premium subscribers surged 12% to reach 281 million, while total monthly active users jumped by 17 million to 713 million during the third quarter. According to Reuters, the company expects even stronger fourth-quarter earnings, fueled by its revamped subscription structure and festive-season demand.
